講題:Operational decision-making with Uncertainty

Abstract: In this session Professor Lewis will provide a basic introduction to decision-making under uncertainty. In particular, we discuss long-term investment decisions (and some of the criteria in making those decisions) versus short-term dynamic decisions. Examples abound from Professor Lewiss interactions with various companies over an almost thirty-year career including Intel, Dell, CVS and the Mitre Corporation.

We will then discuss the INFORMS Analytics Framework (IAF). IAF is a flexible decision-making framework for incorporating mathematical modeling informed by data structures to improve short and long-term investment decisions.

The bulk of the session is meant to be interactive between both speaker and audience.

講者資訊:
Mark Lewis is the Maxwell M. Upson Professor of Engineering at Cornell University. He is highly regarded for his research in dynamic control of service systems, as well as his passion for resource allocation in controlled queueing networks. He has also published work in inventory control, transportation networks, cash balance (in finance), and wireless communications.

Among his accolades is the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (2001), being the Black History Month Honoree of Mathematically Gifted & Black in 2019, being inducted as an INFORMS Fellow and a Minority Issues Forum Fellow in 2021 and having received the William H. Kadel Alumni Medal for Outstanding Career Achievement Award from Eckerd College 2023. He has been an Amazon Scholar since 2024 and is the current President of INFORMS.
