Subject: Application for the exemption of the Online English Program from Mar. 23, 2026 to Mar. 27, 2026
1.Criteria: (1)Individuals who have fulfilled one of the following criteria may apply for the exemption of the OEP courses : (1-1)Passed the listening and reading proficiency tests of the high-intermediate level of the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT), (1-2)Scored 72 or above on the TOEFL iBT test, (1-3)Received a 6.0 or above band score on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic, (1-4)Scored 70 or above in the listening, usage and vocabulary and reading components of English of the Foreign Language Proficiency Test (FLPT), (1-5)Passed at Grade C in the First Certificate in English (B2) of the Cambridge English, (1-6)Scored 785 or above on listening and reading test of the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), (1-7)Achieved CEFR B2 level or above on the listening and reading tests of the BEST Test taken before May 30, 2024, or achieved CEFR B2 level or above on the four tests:listening, reading, speaking, and writing of the BESTEP Test taken after May 31, 2024, (1-8)Obtained a bachelor’s degree or a higher degree from a university in an English-speaking country, which is listed in the Reference List of Foreign Universities compiled by the Ministry of Education, (1-9)Passed another English proficiency test approved by the OEP Taskforce and acknowledged by the Center for General Education.
2.Students who take EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) courses annotated by the Academic Affairs Office, with a total of at least 12 credits, each course has more than three credits or more, and achieve a grade of A- or above in each course, are exempt from taking all OEP courses. (If taking EMI courses for the entire academic year, both semesters must be EMI courses, and grades must be A- or above in each.
3.Students who have passed the OEP Exemption Exam administered by the Foreign Language Teaching and Resource Center, NTU, or have waived the Freshman English courses according to the “NTU Guidelines for Freshman English Waiving” do not need to file the application again.
4.Application Procedures: Please visit myNTU (https://my.ntu.edu.tw/) within the stated period, select "Student Zone" , "Course Information" , "Application for Exemption from OEP courses" Complete the required information, them print out the Application Form for Exemption from OEP courses, and submit it to the Foreign Language Teaching and Resource Center along with the following documents. The original documents will be returned after verification. The Application Form for Exemption from OEP courses and copies of transcripts will be submitted for verification and record keeping. (1) Original Student NTU ID Card; (2) Application Form for Exemption from OEP courses (please complete and print); (3) Original and photocopy of transcripts (or certificates) that meet the exemption requirements; (4) Identification requirements for the exemption: (4-1-1)Taiwanese citizens shall bring their original, valid passport with a certificate or report written in English when they apply for the exemption. (4-1-2)The original, valid national identification card is required if the certificate or report is written in Mandarin Chinese. (4-1-3)The ROC (Taiwan) Resident Certificate (ARC) is the only acceptable identity document for overseas Chinese students and foreign students. (4-2)The National Health Insurance card is invalid as a qualified identification , as the card is mainly for medical purposes. (4-3)If an individual takes the TOEIC test outside Taiwan, he or she shall present the official score report in English, issued by the local ETS representative or ETS Preferred Network office.
5. Application Period: From March 23, 2026 to March 27, 2026 Office hours: 9:00~11:30 and 13:30~16:00 on weekdays; Not accepted during lunch break (12:00 to 13:30).
6. Application Location: Lobby on the 1st floor of the Foreign Language Teaching and Resource Center or Room #302 ( For PDF format of TOFEL iBT or IELTS test score report only ).
7. Announcement time of review results : The list of approved exemptions will be announced on Curriculum website/Service/Application for Exemption from the OEP Courses on May 04, 2026. Successful applicants will be exempt from course applications hereafter.
Other Notice: 1. Since Feb 1st, 2023, undergraduate students of all grades, in addition to the above application dates, can also apply for OEP courses exemptions on weekdays. For details, please refer to the announcement on the Foreign Language Teaching and Resource Center website. 2. The Foreign Language Teaching and Resource Center had officially announced on August 24, 2021, that starting from the summer vacation of the academic year 2021, “Online English Program” summer courses will no longer be offered. Undergraduate students planning to graduate on time by taking the OEP courses should complete course selection early to avoid delays in their graduation timeline. 3. If you plan to study abroad as an exchange student near graduation, ensure that you complete the OEP courses or obtain an exemption before going abroad. This will help avoid delays in your graduation timeline, as processing may not be possible while you are overseas."
