No need to ask which part of a presentation most presenters dread. The Question & Answer (Q&A) section is often considered the least predictable and most perilous part of most presentations. The reasons presenters have for dreading the Q&A are manifold, but a common complaint is that this is the time when you give up control of your presentation and let the audience control it, opening yourself up, perhaps, to challenges and criticisms. This perspective, however, is incorrect. The Q&A can be just as much a managed section as the previous sections and presenters need not relinquish control. In fact, the Q&A can be a great opportunity to repeat, amplify and extend your presentation. This talk looks at different ways to approach and manage the Q&A section, including some often-unconsidered alternatives. We will also look at how to effectively manage troublesome situations and still come out on top.
講者簡介
Marc Anthony has been an instructor with the Academic Writing Education Center since its inception. He teaches courses in academic writing and presentation skills.
